The palliative care hospice
Francine Cuillerier Leclaire

In commemoration of Francine Cuillerier Leclaire, the first palliative care hospice will open in Brossard. There is currently only one palliative care facility, which can accommodate 12 patients, in the entire Longueuil agglomeration. This is clearly not enough for the region.

Francine Cuillerier Leclaire was a mother, grandmother and wife, who three times was confronted with a diagnosis of cancer. Following experimental chemotherapy treatments for sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, Francine decided to accept the final diagnosis and cease all treatment. She chose to live the time she had left to the fullest, in the company of her husband, her children and her grandchildren. Francine was in palliative care for three weeks. Following the experience, her husband, Normand Leclaire, decided he wanted to give back and undertook this audacious project to build a palliative care hospice in Brossard. It will be named the Maison Francine Cuillerier Leclaire.

When faced with having to go through the difficult experience of accompanying a loved one during their final days, our most fervent wish is that they be granted dignity, serenity and human warmth. This is what the Maison Francine Cuillerier Leclaire will be able to offer someone at the end of their life along with their loved ones. Located in a quiet and safe Brossard neighbourhood, the Maison FCL will be able to welcome 12 patients.

The mission of a palliative care facility is to ensure patients and their loved ones have the best quality of life possible by offering appropriate care, provided by a team of caring health care professionals. After enduring the pain of an illness, no one should have to suffer during the final stages of their life. Each patient is unique and deserves unconditional respect.

For this project to see the light of day, we need your help. Your support is essential in helping us raise $5 million to open the Maison FCL in 2018. The City of Brossard has already been approached, and is open and responsive to this worthwhile collective project.
